Mountain Activities

Mountain and other land based activities available at CMC Pensarn Harbour.

Rock ClimbingRock Climbing

We are able to offer Rock Climbing and Abseiling for both beginners and more experienced climbers.

If you are looking for a natural high, then we can offer everything from introductory single pitch climbs to more adventurous high mountain expeditions. CMC Pensarn Harbour is ideally placed geographically to offer both. Climbing and abseiling can be offered as part of a multi activity course or as a specialist course in it's own right. Both activities give a good opportunity for members of a group to work together and encourage each other; and for each individual to push themselves beyond what they thought they could do.

Mountain WalkMountain Walking

Explore the peaks of Snowdonia with CMC

With the Snowdonia National Park all around us, CMC is within easy reach of many mountains which are spectacular and challenging, but are attainable for the majority of groups. The mountain walks can vary enormously: possibilities include an adventurous scramble along a ridge; a mountain set in the old slate mining area, with old buildings and machinery appearing through the mist; or a climb up Snowdon with stunning views of the surrounding area.

Gorge WalkingGorge Walk

About as much fun and adventure as you can have - we love it!

Possibly our most popular activity. We kit you up with wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet, and go for an adventure in the nearby Afon (river) Nantcol, where the water flows down through a beautiful gorge, over small waterfalls and around rocks.

Low Level / Local Walkslow level walk

Stunning scenery and wonderful wildlife just waiting to be discovered.

A walk around the local area, which may include some of the local history, an opportunity to discover a Celtic burial chamber, a glimpse of the hardships of the slate mining industry, some stunning views of the mountains around the centre and learning a little about the local wildlife. Alternatively take the opportunity to walk and chat to friends.

RIMG0015Orienteering

Learn how to recognise where "there" is and how to find it!

Orienteering is a session that can be run in different ways, depending on the aims of the group. For some sessions it is a challenge that involves physical effort, fast thinking and observation skills on our local course, with the group dividing into different teams who compete against each other.

Survival trainingBushcraft & Survival Training

Learn how to survive when it really matters.

Taking place in the woods at our Bryn-y-Moel site the aim of this session is to introduce group members to the art of basic survival. The four priorities of Food, Fire, Shelter, and Water will be covered, as well as emergency procedures and camp craft. If this is done as a full day session it can be extended to an adventurous overnight bivi in shelters that the group design and erect themselves, with an evening meal cooked over an open fire.
