Christian Mountain Centre Pensarn Harbour

CMC Volunteer Support Staff

Making the Residential Experience Possible!

In order for CMC Pensarn Harbour to function and be as affordable as possible we need volunteers! As a member of the CMC support staff team you are a critical member of the CMC team. The care and effort that you would offer our guests completes the "residential package" we offer.

Much of the life changing work that CMC undertakes is a result of people being able to get away from their everyday environment and stay and eat with others, all within a Christian context. Support staff are also a critical part of the Christian witness of CMC as, by serving the guests, our staff put into practice on a daily basis the Christian principles of love and service. It is not easy work - it can be dirty, hot and smelly and often, when it is going well, it can go unnoticed! That said, if you fancy the opportunity to put others first, be part of a committed team of Christians and use your work as your witness, get in touch!

Coming to work on the CMC support staff team is a life changing experience and, whether you are available to come for 3 months or 2 years, you will be able to hugely benefit the guests and help maintain and improve the standard of our catering and accommodation.

An average day in the kitchen would involve cooking breakfast for a group, helping to prepare packed lunches and assisting the cooks with evening meal. Sometimes you would be on breakfast and house duties which would again involve preparing breakfast and then cleaning the guest accommodation, either in preparation for the arrival of a group or helping to maintain the high standards of cleanliness during a group's stay.

What do we offer you?

  • Full and appropriate training.
  • 'In work' training opportunities and time to gain experience towards qualifications.
  • A weekly allowance to contribute towards your expenses.
  • Full board and accommodation whilst you are volunteering with us - probably in shared rooms
  • Exactly the same time off and holiday entitlements as our permanent staff.
  • The possibility of volunteering at a centre in India for 4 months during one winter.
  • Opportunities to take part in outdoor activities as time off and rotas allow.

What do you offer us?

A Commitment of 3 months to 2 years. 3 months is the minimum we recommend to be trained and gain from the experience. 2 years allows the possibility of a local college course and the start of a career in hospitality.

Enthusiasm for Christian residential work groups of varying ages.

A Willingness to be involved in all aspects of the life of CMC. These can range from evening ministry to domestic duties and from maintenance to gardening. All staff undertake additional duties which enable the centre to go that "extra mile" for our guests.

A Desire to share your Christian faith with those who visit the centre, be it formally through the evening ministry of the centre or informally through the service we offer our guests.

  • Hard Work - we all hated our teachers and parents saying it, but, it is true. The more you put into the work here the more you will get out of it!
  • Some things to think about before applying.
  • What do my family think about volunteering at CMC?
  • Have I found out enough about outdoor residential centres?
  • Is this a long term interest for me or a "gap year" type event?
  • What does my church minister think about me applying?
  • Am I willing to work as part of a team in all aspects of residential centre life?
  • What do my Christian friends think about me applying?
  • Can I handle often repetitive work, sometimes on my own and seemingly unnoticed.
  • Can I handle shared accommodation and communal facilities?
